Wintertime is upon us. As we look out the window it's whiteout conditions, and the first snow of the season is accumulating. Although it is reported not to last, the writing is on the wall.
Fall is over.
Winter has arrived.
We're into the darkest month of the year.
Time to drink a beer.
Not any beer, this time it's a Cascadian Dark Ale. Known also as a Black IPA, or India Dark Ale, we prefer the more eloquent first term.
Introducing The Darkness Cascadian Dark Ale.
A true India Pale Ale, albeit with an unexpected colour, it's hoppy, bright, and packed full of big flavours.
Dark, dark, dark. Pours with almost stout-like black inkiness, capped with a nice tan head.
First sensation is the hop forward presentation from copious amounts of late hops, and dry hops. It's followed by a gorgeous roasty body with a hint of wheat chewiness, fruity middle notes and then backed up by bracing bitterness in the finish.
This is the time of year when you concentrate on staying warm and comfortable, and crave those rich flavours of the season. The Darkness Cascadian Dark Ale fits the bill perfectly.
Get it on tap at select bars in Halifax.
Of course, you can also get it at the brewery retail store at 78 Ohio Road in beautiful Shelburne.
